A recent night trip produced an inshore slam for the boat. While we expected to catch snook and perhaps trout, the redfish was a bit of a surprise. Free-lined shrimp around residential dock lights was the ticket. An approaching warm front provided the fluctuating barometer and the solunar major period lined up well with our timing. We fished an incoming tide on the last half of the flood. Once the tide stopped, the bite stopped. Had we stuck it out until the outgoing, we could have picked up more fish. We returned to the ramp around 1 a.m. and called it a night. Get out while the weather is mild. The fish are biting!

The El Nino pattern should give us a mild, rather wet winter. That's all good news on the flats fishing scene. Waters have cooled, but they won't get to the "frigid" levels that cause the fish to want to move further south. Live and artificial baits will be great. Get out there and wet a line. Call me and let's go fishing!
